Winter in the park

Today's photo is another one from Saturday's snowfall in Copenhagen. With winter still very much in evidence, this is how most of Denmark looks like on this the last day of autumn. The photo was taken in Kongens Have, the park next to the Rosenborg Castle.

Who is hiding behind umbrella number one?

During the winter weather of the weekend, this character decided to use an umbrella for cover, not that it mattered much. Can you guess who is behind the umbrella?

And Winter Came

Yesterday's post told you about the difficulties of getting around Copenhagen due to the construction of the new metro-line. Today the difficulties are caused by nature, as King Winter decided to pay us an extremely early visit. And as five snowflakes falling in Copenhagen is equal to chaos in the traffic, the weather of this weekend has ground much of the country and of the city of Copenhagen to a crawl. Even the traditional Christmas lunches at the firms was supposedly dull affairs this weekend, the police reported. The photo here show how some at least made the best of the snow by taking a stroll in the King's Garden (Kongens Have).

How to get around

A question much used at Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen is "How do I get around to the other side?" Much of the square is fenced off because of the construction of the new metro-line. This station will be one of the connecting ones between the old(er) metro and the new one, so the construction site will take some space...and it should only take until about 2017 before we have the metro ready...if they're on time. Which would be a first.

Constructing a metro

One of the new metro stations will be placed right next to the Marble Church, so the work to re-direct wiring, pipes and sewers have already begun. Hopefully they will be extra careful here, so that the beautiful church don't disappear in a hole in the ground.

Digging up the city

This autumn has seen the city of Copenhagen being dug up in a great many places. A new metro line is being constructed, so streets and squares has been closed down and work has begun to change the layout of pipes and sewers. Don't count on an easy way through the Copenhagen traffic the next few years, as some streets will be closed off until 2017. On this photo it's the central square, Kongens Nytorv, that is under excavation under an autumn sun.

Sun and clouds

Autumn is the season for changing weather in Denmark, as can be seen on this photo from the King's Garden (Kongens Have) in Copenhagen. The sun is shining on the park, but in the background black clouds of rain are coming.

Entrance

On a beautiful November day, the entrance to Copenhagen Citadel, Kastellet, really looks nice. As I've told before, this is still a military establishment, but it's open to the public, so it's a popular place to take a Sunday walk.

Last Jump

The last jump from this year's Hubertus Hunt will be this one with, the horn blower, bringing his steed beautifully over the obstacle.

Jump High

The riders in the Hubertus Hunt need horses that they can trust when jumping the obstacles.

Hubertus Hunt

The Hubertus Hunt is a traditional end of the parforce hunting season in Denmark, played out in Dyrehaven with thousands of spectators. The tradition of the Hubertus Hunt in Dyrehaven started in 1905 by the Sports Riding Club and it is always held on the first Sunday of November. The riders, all members of the club, are chosen among the most active riders of hunts in the past year. The hunt is named after the saint of hunters, St. Hubertus.

A Big Pumpkin

This is a little shop with a big pumpkin for a roof, smiling as all the other pumpkins in Tivoli. This is not a scary halloween, but a nice and cozy one, what we in Denmark call hyggelig.

A Large Pumpkin Face

The pumpkin faces can be seen all over Tivoli during their Halloween Week, but I think this one is the largest of them all.

A Lot of Scarecrows

One of the main themes in Tivoli at Halloween is the happy scarecrows. They are placed everywhere to greet the guests, like this one on a wagon.

Halloween in Tivoli

A sure sign of autumn is the week where Tivoli in Copenhagen has been dressed for Halloween. Here the ferris wheel is just peeping over the top of the trees.

Camouflage

This red squirrel is perfectly camouflaged for autumn. Only it's movement betrayed it so that I could get this photo of it, before it vanished in the treetops.

More Colours

On a beautiful sunny day the autumn colours at Vestre Cemetery really stand out.

Under a Yellow Roof

Another photo from Vestre Cemetery in Copenhagen. Here the autumn leaves almost make this road look like a tunnel.

Stairs

Another place to go in Copenhagen to enjoy the autumn colours is one of the many cemeteries as these are kept almost like parks. This one is from the Vestre Cemetery not far from my home and shows the stairs leading to the upper level.

Water and Autumn Colours

Water and autumn colours go well together like here from the park Frederiksberg Have in Copenhagen.

The Colours of Autumn

What I love about autumn is the fiery colours that change from day to day until the leaves are gone from the trees. And in Copenhagen you don't have to leave the city at all, as the parks are numerous. This photo is from Søndermarken just across the Copenhagen Zoo.

Red Deer

The red deer in Dyrehaven is one of my favourite animals to watch as you can get pretty close without disturbing them.

Looking

Dyrehaven is used by both deer and humans, but who's looking at who?

Shapes

Out in the open in Dyrehaven the red deer where merely shapes in the grey mist.

A Grey World

The morning mist in Dyrehaven changed everything to a world of grey, where shapes could be sensed rather than seen.

Breakfast in the forrest

In Dyrehaven north of Copenhagen this roe-deer was a bit surprised to be interrupted in the breakfast by a clicking sound.

Swamp

The mist over this little area of swamp in Dyrehaven makes for a beautiful photo-op. Just be careful where you put down your foot as this is just as wet as it seems.

Misty

My series of posts of autumn starts a misty Sunday morning at daybreak at one of my favourite places; the former Royal hunting ground of Dyrehaven just north of Copenhagen. This is a time and place for some real peace and quiet as the forest wakes up to greet the day. The mist this morning creates shapes and movement that makes this seem almost like a fairytale.

Stairs

Inside the keep of the Trakai Island Castle be prepared for a lot of wooden stairs. In the summer heat they might be a bit of a challenge for many.

This is the last of my Lithuanian posts for now. Autumn has arrived in Denmark, so from tomorrow I'll show a bit of that. And after those I might take you further on my summer travels.
